A ram BOP is a blowout preventer that is samiliar in operation to a gate valve. Ram BOPS use a pair of steel plungers that oppose each other (rams). The rams can extend towards the wellbore's center to restrict the flow of fluids or retract open to permit the flow.
Ram BOP can be used to quickly seal the top of the well in the event of a well control event (kick). A ram BOP consist of two halves of a cover, and the covers are constructed of steel for strength. Pipe Rams are installed into ram BOP, and pipes rams can effectively seal a limited range of pipe diameters. There are variable-bore rams available also, and the variable-bore rams are designed to seal a wider range of pipe diameters. Shear Rams Blocks are used to share drill pipes. The various ram blocks can be changed in the ram BOP, and this will enable the well drilling operation team to optimize BOP configuration for the particular hole section or operation in drilling progress.
The ram blowout preventer uses hydraulic pressure to push the well sealing components—two rams with rubber cores—from the left and right sides to the center of the wellbore to seal the wellhead, so it is called the ram blowout preventer. The working process of the ram blowout preventer is to use the hydraulic pressure to push the piston to drive the ram to close or open, so as to close or open the wellhead to achieve the purpose of sealing and opening the well.
Ram blowout preventer is mainly composed of shell, side door, oil cylinder, cylinder head, piston, piston rod, locking shaft, seals, ram and so on.
1. The pressure-bearing parts and pressure-controlling parts are forgings, with dense structure and high strength. They have good strength and impact toughness, and are safer and more reliable to use.
2. The gate cavity is an elliptical structure, which reduces the stress of the shell and improves the bearing capacity of the shell.
3. The seal of the middle flange adopts combined seal, the switch of the middle flange is realized by hydraulic pressure, and the replacement of the gate plate is quick and convenient
4. The replacement gate can be replaced by opening the side door assembly with oil pressure, which reduces the labor intensity of workers and improves work efficiency.
5. The shear ram can be equipped with tandem booster to achieve the same function and smaller volume. It can also be equipped with a large tandem booster, which is simple in structure, safe and reliable. Equipped with tandem boosters, compared with the traditional ram BOP with shearing ram, the function remains the same and the volume is smaller.

7. The manual locking device is a standard configuration, once the hydraulic pressure is lost, it can ensure that the gate remains closed. Manual locking device can ensure that ram remains closed once hydraulic loss happened.

9. The inside of the anti-low temperature blowout preventer shell can be processed to make the steam flow inside the blowout preventer and radiate heat (for customers to choose)
10. All parts in contact with the well fluid inside the high-sulfur-resistant blowout preventer are surfacing with high-nickel-based alloys, which can achieve the highest level of anti-H2S and CO2 effects (for customers to choose)

1. When there are drilling tools in the well, the semi-sealed ram can close the annular space between the drill pipe, casing and tubing, and is equipped with rubber core (specific specifications are equipped according to customer requirements)
2. When there is no drilling tool in the well, the wellhead can be fully sealed with the fully sealed ram;
3. When the drilling tool in the well needs to be cut off and the wellhead is fully sealed, the shear ram can be used to cut the drilling tool in the well and fully seal the wellhead;
4. The rams of some ram BOPs allow load-bearing and can be used to hang drilling tools;
5. There are side holes on the shell of the ram blowout preventer, which can be used to throttle and relieve pressure;
6. The ram blowout preventer can be used for long-term well sealing.
7. In order to effectively control formation pressure, it can be used in conjunction with kill and choke manifolds to achieve balanced pressure drilling.
8. Special operations such as well killing and well flushing can be realized with the wellhead closed.
